Eli Rarey is an independent filmmaker based out of Los Angeles.
He has created numerous short films, both fiction and documentary, as well as live performances and installation work. His most recent short film, Pigeon, which he wrote, directed, and stars in, is currently playing in festivals around the world.
His interactive web series Hard Decisions allows the viewer to navigate a branching narrative with 11 possible endings. The feature film The Famous Joe Project, which he wrote and directed, premiered at Outfest in 2012, while the short film on which that feature was based premiered at the 2007 Slamdance Film Festival and won Best International Short Film at the Lisbon Village International Digital Cinema Festival.
Rarey is a founding member of SCIENCE PROJECT performance collective and a regular contributor to online art and literary journal Ohio Edit. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Columbia University in Theater Arts and an MFA degree from USC School of Cinematic Arts, where he later taught in the Interactive Media Division. In addition to his work as a writer/director, he has worked as a visual effects production manager on both independent and major studio films.
